i beleive a radar detector is legal in 38 states
make sure that when u get one thatu get a good one. The cheap ones are crap and wont detect the cops until you can see them. The more expensive ones usually have a stronger singal and can detect them farther giving you a chance to spot a cop.

Radar detectors are legal in 49 States!!!! They are only illegal in Virginia and Washington DC.
Now Canada is a bit different.

When purchasing a radar detector the cheapest one that I would recommend is the BEL 895($200 @ Radio Shack) Anything less than that will give you bad detection range.
